A Promise to Humanity

Annie Alexander, the first woman to receive a licence to practice medicine in North Carolina. Her father, who was also a physician proclaimed, Annie would practice medicine and serve humanity. In the end thats exactly what she did,  she used her talents, determination, and compassion to serve humanity and inspire male and female doctors alike.

County Practice Fees (1903)

  • A home visit was $1.50 and an additional fifty cents for every three miles the physician traveled
  • Obstetrical Cases were $7.00
  • After 10:00 p.m. the fees doubled.
